Prime Suspect on Masterpiece Theatre, woooohoooo. Don't know if Canadians get this like we do. But anyway last nites episode was so good. Second half will be continued next week on US PBS stations. And if in your area you missed last nite's episode but have a chance to catch up during the week, do it (not possible in Chicago area, if you miss on Sunday nite that's it).

Episode starts strangely with Jayne Tennyson (Hellen Mirren) going through some type of job review, where one gets the distinct impression her reviewers do think her present responsibilities are a match to what they consider appropriate to a middle aged woman. Then the discovery of a woman's body at a construction site. And one of her active dectitives, Simon, begins to work on the situation. The woman turns out to be a Bosnian Muslim name Samira and her sister, Jasmina, also lives in Manchester (setting of Prime Suspect). Jayne takes over the case directly from her suboridinate, perhaps to prove to those reviewers she is up for the job she has. Jayne pursues the angle that the killing of Samira is linked to the ethnic civil war in Bosnia. Simon pursues, at first without telling Jayne, an angle that implicates organized Balkan criminal gangs that operate in the UK, especially since Jasmina's b/f has links to those gangs. However, Jayne discovers that Jasmina and Samira witnessed in 1992 a Serbian atrocity committed on Muslims. BTW, a former b/f of Jayne's has been in the former Yugoslavia as a reporter. The episode ends with the tragic murder of Jasmina.

The episode has right good writting, Balkan politics, suspense and police procedure. All good.
