Episode 3 - Brother's Keeper

One never wants to believe that their own sibling could be capable of bad things, especially murder. So it's almost surreal to Tru when the ex-husband of her brother's new girlfriend, Sarah is brought into the morgue, with a gunshot wound in his chest. Only, she doesn't realize Harrison is involved until a phone call from Meredith.
This time however, she goes straight to the body and basically tells him if he wants her help, now would be a good time to ask. No answer. So she starts to close the drawer, and he turns and says "Help Me", which propels her back to the beginning of the day. A chance to save her brother from committing this heinous crime.
One who wasn't aware of her situation, might accuse Tru of being a nosy, overprotective sister. She investigated, interviewed, and basically meddled in Harrison, Sarah and Andrew's private lives. But what sister wouldn't, if she knew the outcome of the day's events?
Tru does everything she can to try and get to the bottom of this situation, to prevent it from happening. But her brother merely thinks she's pulling the overprotective sister act, apparently she's famous for it.
She also finds out some very conflicting stories in regards to the relationship between Sarah and Andrew. Especially with the help of her lawyer sister, Meredith.
Finally, Tru admits to Harrison her calling. He doesn't so much believe her, even when she tells him things that will happen before they do. She informs him what is about to play out, yet he still has doubts. He gets the phone call and takes off, Tru chasing after him, begging him not to go. This was a very emotional scene that Eliza played exquisitely. He still goes. Then we learn thru a phone call from Meredith what Sarah is probably up to. She's setting Harrison up to commit this murder, so she can have ALL of Andrew's money, rather than taking only half in a divorce.
The fight went down, Harrison had the gun on Andrew, with Sarah screaming for him to kill her husband before they are killed. Harrison can't do it. Sarah grabs the gun, shoots Andrew in the chest and basically tells Harrison he's going down for it.
Only thing is, Andrew gets up, as Tru arrives. Seems big sis called the potential victim ahead of time and begged him to wear a bullet proof vest. So Sarah's plan is foiled, and off to jail she goes.
Brother and sister make up, as Harrison wonders if he really killed Andrew before Tru relived the day. They share a very tender brother/sister moment.

Now it seems to me, and I'm not just being biased, that this show gets better and better every week. This particular episode really gave Shawn Reaves a chance to shine. And shine he did. I really like the dynamics and chemistry between Eliza and Shawn. And, is it just me, or does it seem like Tru is uber klutzy? Every time she wakes up and answers the phone, she breaks something!

Episode 1x04 Past Tense


Ice, Ice Baby


Tru Davies. College Graduate, Morgue Tech, and Aspiring Detective (and maybe possible stripper LOL). What cant this girl do?
So many funny things in this episode! More and more I find that Davis (Zach Galifiankis) is such an underrated member of the cast. He has an unassuming humor. And he delivers it impeccably. His line this time that had me laughing out loud was in a conversation with Tru. Does this lab coat make me look portly? he asked, serious as can be.
And who wouldnt laugh at the many times that Tru was mistaken for a stripper! Poor Tru.
This week, not 1, but FIVE victims are seeking Trus assistance. Only thing is, they were brought in with no identification, so our favorite pseudo-detective has quite a task before her to solve this one. But never fear, our girl isnt dumb. She enlists the help of her brother on this one, who is still struggling to accept Trus admission of her gift. Together, the quasi Starsky and Hutch start solving the puzzle and trying to alter the previous outcome of the guys night.
After tracking down the real stripper booked for the evenings events, Tru almost blows the secret cover of the daytime telemarketer. Then almost blows her own cover as she approaches the groom, informing him that shes from the hotel and his reservation is cancelled. Boy does this girl think on her feet or what? She has an excuse for everything!
So she sneaks herself into the room, to replace the liquor, fearing the poison is in that. Only, before she can get out, the party guests show up. So she tells them shes a gift from the hotel, a free bartender for the night. She begins trying to narrow it down to who the possible murder is. Not without incident though. One of the guys, Blake (whom, you Buffy fans might recognize as Forrest, the Initiative pal of Riley Finn) is onto her, and ultimately foils her plan, having her removed from the room and the hotel. So Tru heads back to the morgue, having earlier consulted with Davis for an antidote for the poison, to retrieve said antidote.
Racing back to the hotel, she knocks on the door, only to be greeted by the angry Blake. She tries to explain to him that she knows of their past, or rather that something happened that someone will go to extremes to cover up. Harrison calls to give her the final piece of the puzzle, the so called groom is not really engaged after all. Boom! You have your murderer. And the poison, its in the ice.
Confrontation ensues, with Tru letting Mr. Faux Groom know of a little bartenders trick she picked up. Even though hes drinking his alcohol straight up, without ice, that she has lined the bottom of each glass hes imbibed with crushed ice, to keep it cold. So, hes poisoned himself as well.
The antidote is utilized. All five lives are saved. Finally the secret theyve carried so long about the murder in college is out in the open, and being dealt with by authorities.
Once again, Tru has saved the day. Go girl wonder!
During the course of this whole days events, Meredith is presented with a drug test at her law firm, which Tru warns her about. She passes, seems she paid someone to provide a urine sample for her. Now in my opinion, this is a character that seriously needs some developing. Shes way too one-dimensional. She just pops up for a brief encounter in Trus day, always being rescued by her sister it seems.
And lets not forget Luc (with a C). The handsome photographer, who is so obviously being set up as a possible romance for Tru. Now, dont get me wrong, I love romance and love, but we are only 4 episodes into the season, and Tru has had 3 romance interests. First there was Mr. Cheating Professor, then the 1 day romance of the firefighter whom Tru couldnt save, and now we have the introduction of Luc. If you ask me, they are pushing the romance card way too much. Who says she NEEDS a man? Shes a strong, independent woman, shes just fine being single.

Episode 1x05 Haunted

In my opinion, this has been the best episode of Tru Calling thus far. For so many reasons! Main one being, Doug Petrie was the writer. And it had somewhat of a Buffy feel to it. From some of the lines that were spoken, to the underlying humor, to the seeming Buffy/Giles like bond growing between Tru and Davis.
I also liked how this episode left you hanging. It gives you so much, but leaves you wanting more. Leaving something unresolved in the manner they did, makes you want to tune in again to see what is going on. It was a nice change of pace from the usual "corpse of the week" type stories. It gave us sort of an arc.
Paige was a great character, they should keep her around. She'd be a good pal for Tru. Don't get me wrong, I like Lindsay, but she seems so shallow and superficial (I still can't believe she fell for that lame pick up line from Jeremy).
Honestly, I really didn't miss Meredith in this ep. They could probably do without her. Like I've been saying, they need to develop her character or drop it all together.
Harrison was goodness as always! That guy reminds me so much of my own brother in so many ways LOL!
And Davis....I really like this character. He's quirky and funny. I soooooo totally knew he was in the know more than he was letting on. I can't wait to find out exactly what he does know.
What's to say about Tru herself that hasn't been said before? Well, this episode she had to make a major life changing decision. Talk about selfless. She chose her calling over her future. This character is really developing into one great chick. Not that she wasn't already, but in that one selfless act, she shows exactly how tough and cool she truly is.
If you weren't hooked on Tru Calling before, this episode should have reeled you in enough to tune in next week. It gets better and better every week. Go Tru Calling!!!
I hope Doug Petrie pens more eps!

Episode 1x06 Starcrossed


I've said it once, I'll say it again. This show gets better and better each week. This weeks episode was no exception. It had action, suspense, and a twist I never saw coming. It also showed the growing bond between Tru and Davis. It's almost as if he's her watcher in a sense. It's nice to see her have some help on her missions.
Tru posed as a high school student to prevent the deaths of 2 students in what appeared to be a "romeo and juliet" type deal. She even endangered her own life to save theirs. But much like the audience watching with anticipation, Tru didn't see the real truth either. It wasn't the boy and girl who were in love, it was 2 girls. The girlfriend of the boy and another girl. Nice twist there. I totally didn't see it coming. Which is why I feel this show will start gaining more audience. It pulls you in, as you, along with Tru try to solve the circumstances of the deaths. Then when you think you've figured it out, BAM! something you never saw coming. I like that they are doing this. It keeps you interested right til the very end, then you are craving more.
Another difference this episode was the fact that Tru actually went to the scene of the crimes to retrieve the bodies. They asked for her help then, instead of the same old morgue scenes.
Davis had some great moments in this episode. He is so funny! And also knows way more than we think he does. How he knows about Tru's gift is still not known, but he helped her out this time. And the touching moment at the end when Tru gave him her flowers and thanked him for helping her deal with her secret was very sweet.
Harrison and Lindsay. I just have to say, I kinda saw this coming, altho I totally didn't think they'd have hooked up in Tru's apartment. This was a very funny scene.
Luc. He and Tru finally had a date, altho not without incident and her having to run off in the middle of it. But finally at the end, they shared their first kiss. The swelling music as they kissed at the end was very reminiscent of OMWF (the Buffy Musical). I'm still not too keen on the romance card. I think they are trying too hard to play it. But maybe he'll grow on me. Only time will tell.
I do recommend if you haven't watched this show, you give it a chance. It's quickly becoming a great series with potential to become a cult classic.
